Vera Povolna is a Rolfing practitioner with
offices in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Rolfing, also known as
Structural Integration, is a manual therapy that addresses
specific chronic tensions in the body as well as
general internal tension that results from our everyday living. The
focus is on connective tissue which includes ligaments, tendons and
fascia. These structures give shape to the body and run
continuously through it. With habitual posture and any injury, a
pattern forms in the connective tissue to adapt to it. The tissue
feels denser there. Releasing the strain in these structures
results in increased freedom of movement and more efficient
exchange of nutrients and fluids in the tissues.Ultimately, the main goal of Rolfing is
alignment of
the body where ‘things are stacked up on top of each
other.” In such a state, we don't have to fight gravity
and instead, we find balance and support from the bottom
up.

“The rib
work we did had a very powerful effect on me. I have opened up
emotionally and have been able to cry (new for me) and grieve the
things in my life that really need to be grieved. I feel like the
floodgates have been opened and I have full access to my emotions
again! Two weeks later, that session continues to have a
positive effect on me as well as on the way I experience the world.
Thank you once again for your help!” C.S., Los
Alamos, NM
“Vera
is a gifted and special practitioner. She is refreshingly different
from most of the other practitioners I've seen--and I've seen many!
She is a caring and attentive listener and possesses a unique and
intuitive knowledge of the body and its workings. Her efforts
transcend typical bodywork; I leave her office feeling better every
time. Before I saw Vera, I felt great despair that my body would
never be "back to normal" and that I would endure a lifetime of
chronic pain. A serious injury and a progressive scoliosis had
morphed my once athletic body into a source of immense frustration.
After working with Vera for several months, I am very optimistic
that I can feel ‘normal’ again and at ease in my body, and again be
as athletic and flexible as I was once upon a time.”
